| Taking responsibility for the environment and local community has been an important part of Rezidor's broader commitment to sustainable development for many years. In 2001, this commitment was fortified and placed within the scope of a programme called Responsible Business (RB). Each hotel has a unique RB Action Plan covering areas such as community outreach, environmental improvement, employee well-being and health and safety. The Rezidor Hotel Groups Responsible Business program was established in 2001 and covers three main areas:
- Taking responsibility for the health and safety of our employees and customers
- Respecting social and ethical issues in the company as well as in the community
- Reducing our negative impact on the environment
At The Diplomat Radisson BLU Hotel, Residence & Spa every employee attends training on our Responsible Business goals and initiatives and we have a very active "RB" team. Recent activities and achievements include donations of food & clothing to assist distressed or low income workers, weekly donations of "left over" food to the local animal sanctuary and supporting local causes including raising funds for "Think Pink" and providing free meeting space to a local cancer support group.
We were the first hotel in Bahrain to hold a major "shut down" in support of Earth Hour 2009 to raise awareness of Global Warming and Climate Change and our environmental achievements include monthly reductions in water consumption of over 900, 000 litres and electricity consumption by 100,000 kilowatt hours.
