| Taking responsibility for the environment and local community has been an important part of Rezidor's broader commitment to sustainable development for many years. In 2001, this commitment was fortified and placed within the scope of a programme called Responsible Business (RB). Each hotel has a unique RB Action Plan covering areas such as community outreach, environmental improvement, employee well-being and health and safety. Our hotels are engaged with both local charity groups and Rezidor's corporate international charity organisation, the World Childhood Foundation. The mission of Childhood is to defend the rights of the child and to promote better living conditions for vulnerable and exploited children at risk all over the world.
Here are some of the Responsible Business activities and achievements of this hotel:
- HSH Nordbank Run through Hamburg: 4 km running for benefit: Various companies as well as the Radisson SAS staff members participated and will participate to collect money for "Kinder helfen Kindern" (children helping children).
- Make a Wish Foundation fulfills the heart´s desires of terminal ill children: The Radisson SAS hotel supported 9 year old Vanessa and her parents with a complimentary stay in Hamburg and the visit of the musical "Lion King".
- "Give Blood - Save Life" at September 25th: The Radisson SAS Hotel in Hamburg and the Workers' Samaritan Federation Germany (ASB) request all employees, guests and residents to give blood (supporting the children cancer centre at UKE university hospital).
- Supporting "Paten Straßenkids E.V." the foundation who cares for homeless teens and kids, living in the streets by social, financial projects:
- Panoramic views at September 25th: Hamburg´s tallest hotel opens the non-public terrace at 110m height and every guest and resident is invited to enjoy the view. The entrance fee will be given to "Paten Straßenkids e.V.".
- Cooking for "Paten Straßenkids e.V.": A Radisson SAS team baked pizza in the flat of the foundation to surprise the kids. In September a second cooking action takes place.
- Training for "Paten Straßenkids e.V.": A workshop held by our Human Resource department to give assistance to these kids for their applications.
Responsible Business Workshop for all staff members to refresh and strengthen the awareness for responsible thinking and acting.
- Christmas In A Shoe Box: All staff members packed parcels for children living in poverty. Thousands of parcels were collected all over Germany and have been handed over in 11 countries during Christmas 2005. The action restarts in October for 2006.
- Non Smoking Breakfast: Our Super Breakfast buffet is the first meal of the day and the most important one. Now even more delicious and healthy, as smoking is forbidden.
