Hotel of the Week: Radisson SAS Hotel, London Stansted Airport.
'Start your holiday at the airport'

"The Radisson SAS Stansted Airport is a perfect example, largely thanks to its leisure-centre-sized health club, Pace, which admits adults and children staying at the hotel on production of a check-in slip. Not only has it got a well-equipped gym, but you can join in the classes in the aerobic studio and spinning room. Plus, there's a sauna, steam room and indoor pool and a spa offering beauty treatments.
And the evening entertainment is better than the usual soulless lobby experience. At the heart of the hotel is an atrium, centering on a comfortable, attractive bar with a huge wine tower, from where bottles are plucked to order by "angels" - waitresses in harness who glide up and down the racks. It's a bit of nonsense but an entertaining distraction while sipping a G&T.
Of course, the real pleasure to be got from this hotel is its proximity to the airport - it takes about three minutes to walk to the main concourse. That's what it's all about: falling out of bed just that little bit later."

"At London's Stansted Airport, home to a raft of low-cost carriers but also business class-only airline Eos, to say nothing of newcomer American Airlines, the recently-opened Radisson SAS is a swish example of the new generation of slick airport hotels popping up all over the map."

"No matter how you reach Stansted, you might want to bunk in the SAS Radisson Hotel, virtually adjacent to the passenger terminal. This is particularly pertinent for those with very early-morning departures, or who, upon arriving, are heading for England's interior attractions, such as nearby Cambridge. The 500-room, high-style property features comfortable, spacious rooms, excellent food, and the eye-catching corps of wine angels - black-clad acrobatic young women who retrieve customers' wine choices by soaring up and down a cable that fronts a 43-foot-tall, 4,000-bottle wine cellar. What they land with, they serve!"

"The Radisson gave us a great launch pad for our holiday - so enjoyable was it that we said it was worth returning for a couple of days for a long weekend - even if we weren't flying anywhere!"
